Employer Description: Easter Seals UCP North Carolina creates opportunities, promotes individual choice and changes the lives of children and adults with disabilities by maximizing their individual potential for living, learning and working in their communities.

Program Description: The Central Region North Carolina START (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Respite and Treatment) Respite Program provides support to persons with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental or behavioral health needs and their families/natural supports who are temporarily in need of specialized respite services to minimize the need for more-restrictive and/or higher levels of care.

The NC START Central Respite Program will consist of four beds (2 crisis/2 planned) and will located within the triangle area (Durham/Raleigh area). This program is designed to provide short-term respite services for a maximum of 30 days/individual stay.

Easter Seals UCP of N.C. is seeking passionate and dedicated professionals to fill multiple PART-TIME (scheduled) and/or PRN (as needed) hourly positions with our NC START Respite program. Easter Seals UCP is a large, well established, comprehensive, non-profit mental health and developmental disability service provider serving all of North Carolina.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (human services/related field preferred) and one year of human service experience or High school diploma and 5 years relevant experience
• Direct support experience with both developmental disabilities and mental health populations preferred.
• Experience with crisis prevention and intervention services preferred.
• Maintain valid license and insurance for personal vehicles utilized for work;
• Will be required to work flexible hours according to program needs.
• Limited travel required for training, service coordination, meetings, etc.

Responsibilities: Staff participates in the daily routine of the Program and provides support for habilitative activities, crisis prevention/de-escalation, personal care, health care and other activities. START Respite Counselor participates as part of comprehensive START services that collaborate with individual’s primary provider and clinical Program, community crisis services, family/natural supports and others. This staff also works as part of the regional NC START team, START Director and Respite Director for coordinated supports.
