In 2023, MoonCool introduced a 7-speed derailleur trike that uses a mountain/gravel frame that offers more potential for tuning than the usual heavy step-through adult trikes. I started with this and converted it to a fun fast-mover trike using all standard off-the-shelf products.
Highlights:
• Lightweight steel frame with engineered right wheel rear axle drive and adjustable band brake,
• The BMX-style (Ashtabula) solid bottom bracket crank converted to industry standard JIS,
• Shimano triple crankset making this a 3x7 21 speed,
• Drop bars with SDI style shifting/braking,
• 27.5” wheels now fitted with Panaracer 650B Road/Trail tires,
• Lightweight front fork shock with disc brake on quick release hub.
I also include a modified bike stand for holding the rear axle up for adjustment and tuning.
Optionally, for $100 I can include a modified lightweight bike rack that will fit on a 1 1/4 or 2 inch receiver trailer hitch. Easy on/easy off to transport the tricycle.
I also include all the take-off equipment/running gear including handlebars, mountain tires/tubes, etc. So, if you wish, you can convert this completely back to the original tricycle.
Tricycle comes without a saddle or petals but for a small additional cost I have some options you can consider.
This “Upright Delta” type trike is positioned between the traditional heavy, adult trikes and the lightweight conversion and custom-built road trikes used in the Paralympics.
