We have multiple ewes for sale from our Painted Desert flock.
All sheep are grass/hay fed and live on pasture year round.
Prices range from $250-400 depending on color and whether they have lambs on them or not. $400 would be for a ewe with a ewe lamb. We have three pairs of ewe/ewe lambs. The five remaining ewes without lambs are $250. We also have two mix lineage ewes that are Painted Desert/Katahdin/Dorper crosses.
I also have a young ram that could be paired with a group of ewes for a nice starter flock.
Any questions, please ask. But if the ad is up, plenty of sheep are available.
More information on Painted Deserts below:
Painted Desert sheep are a double-coated breed - they grow a thick coat during the winter and shed in ~May-June each year. Rams have large horns and some ewes also have horns but they are much smaller, similar to goat horns.
Due to the influence of Mouflon, the Painted Desert Sheep may be flightier when confined to small spaces for working. Otherwise, they are calm in the pasture and have a strong flocking influence.
They are a lean, agile sheep with meat the lacks a strong mutton flavor. Rams generally weigh 100-125lbs when full grown and ewes are 70-90lbs. They mature slowly and generally do not reach full size until around 2 years, but ewes can and will lamb by their first birthday if left with a ram. We try not to breed our ewes until they are one year old. Ewes have a strong mothering instinct and usually twin.
