There is 1 missing piece, which is decorative (not functional) - see description below and photos for more details. There are also extra pieces.

–8th photo - see manual page 4 (4th photo), page 5 (5th photo). There are extra pieces, but it is also *missing* 1 piece from the set.
The missing piece is the 2nd item from the top of the manual on page 5 (the singular 1x5 piece). The good news is that this missing piece is a decorative piece that goes on the front of the catapult and it not needed for the catapult to be functional (see the 10th photo for where the missing piece goes, according to the manual on page 51, under the 52nd step).
