Bird Cage Awls, bubinga handles - $45 (Rolesville)

$45 each. I hand make these with USA high carbon steel tempered to Rc 60. The big difference between a bird cage awl which has a square shaft and a standard round shaft shaft awl is its ability to bore holes without splitting the surrounding wood. With all four edges of the point sharpened you can start holes for nails to prevent splitting and accurately center screw holes for hardware. You can even realign slightly misplaced holes by pressing the awl into the right location with a flat side of the point tangent to the original hole and pushing the wood fibers over. Having trouble with drill bits wandering? Use the bird cage awl to punch a starting hole right where you want it. You’ll be amazed at how often you reach for it. Comes with an edge guard and a cardboard gift box. Happy to ship. Please hit the more ads by this user link. I also sharpen most hand tools including saws.
