Transport freight within a specific geographic area (East Coast), typically covering a 500 mile radius from home. Home weekly, offering a balance between home time and long-haul pay.
Responsibilities include driving, navigating, inspecting equipment, securing cargo, and adhering to DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Safe Operation: Driving commercial vehicle (semi-trucks) over intermediate distances to deliver freight safely and on time.
Route Compliance: Adhering to planned routes and schedules, often serving the same customers regularly.
Vehicle Inspection: Performing daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safety and compliance with DOT regulations.
Documentation: Maintaining accurate electronic logging (ELD) of driving hours, mileage, and deliveries.
Cargo Handling: Securing loads to prevent damage and, depending on the role, assisting with loading/unloading freight.
Communication: Providing updates to dispatchers regarding traffic, delays, or maintenance issues.
Required Qualifications and Skills
License: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Experience: Requires 1–2 years of previous OTR or regional driving experience.
Record: A clean driving record with limited or no infractions.
Health: Must pass DOT drug screenings, background checks, and physical exams.
Physical Ability: Capability to sit for long periods.
Weekly Mileage: Drivers generally cover 1,500–2,500 miles per week.
